Good evening lovelies!
This is a bit of a bombshell post if I’m honest. It’s a hard one for me to write and as I sit here typing it out I’m still not 100% sure how I’m feeling about it all or if I’m making the right decisions or not!
If you read my last blog post and have been to a supermarket or wholesalers in the last few weeks you can probably guess what’s coming.
Sass Bakes is having a tough time and I want to share it with you guys.
As I said before, times are really hard for all small businesses at the moment, costs are rising day by day but we can’t raise our prices to match otherwise no one is going to be able to afford to buy our stuff! For me to be able to get anywhere close to keeping my profits the same or as near as possible to what they were before, I would have to add around £1.50 to each bake taking them from £2.50 a piece to £4 a piece and I just can’t bring myself to do that.
I wish I could continue to bake 5 days a week and pay my bills, go on holiday, buy new Crocs etc but it’s just not doable at the moment so I’ve done the only thing I thought sensible and have gone and got myself a job. An actual paid, employed, real job. I start this job on Monday 17th October, hence why I’m telling you guys this whilst I’m on holiday because it’s all happened VERRRRRY quickly!
The pros to this:
- Guaranteed monthly income
- Set hours and fairly stable working pattern
- Less responsibilities
- Working in a team
- Annual leave
- Sick pay
- Still doing something I love (I’m a new Substance Misuse & Well-being Worker for a local homelessness charity)
- less time to bake
- Less time to focus on Sass Bakes
- Less flexibility
- Feeling like a bit of a failure
“Oh no! This marks the end of Sass Bakes!” I hear you cry?
Well you’re wrong! I am not going to stop Sass Bakes completely. I’ve not worked my arse off for the last two and a bit years to give up totally. Instead we are just having a bit of a shake up.
The NEW Sass Bakes plan:
- Bi-weekly Collections/Deliveroo on Friday evenings or Saturday mornings
- Mini Pop-ups
- More raffles/ticket led competitions
- 1-2-1 or Group cake decorating classes for Adults or Kids
- More time for me to create content to share with you all
So instead of weekly ‘Cake Fridays’ I am going to reduce it to every other week and the bakes will be available for collection or Deliveroo on Friday evenings/Saturday mornings.
There will be as many Mini Pop-Ups as I can possibly do. These will either be at a Pop Up venue or at Sass HQ and I’m still 100% up for continuing the Small Biz Markets in the garden if all my Small Biz gang are still interested.
I will be offering regular ticketed competitions and charity raffles for large cakes/Brownie Mountains etc.
I am working on a plan to offer 1-2-1 or small group sessions to teach people how to decorate birthday cakes as a way to help others to save money and learn a new skill.
And hopefully less baking will mean I am less pressured and I can spend more time recording as I bake so I can create more content for you guys to watch and learn from rather than just looking at photos!
Life is going to be crazy for a little while whilst I settle into the new routine especially as I still have big orders etc to fulfil but it’s ok, I shall power on but please be patient with me. Not only will I be stressed, I will also be sad so just be kind 💕
I am sorry that I’ve had to do this and I promise that if I felt there was any other way I wouldn’t be writing this. I hope you will all still support me and Sass Bakes and I cant wait to see you at the next Pop Up!
Love Sass 💕
